education

I received my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Auburn University, after having completed my one-year Pre-Doctoral Internship at Emory University. I then stayed at Emory to complete a one-year Post-Doctoral Fellowship. I completed my Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Psychology from Indiana University.

research

My doctoral dissertation explored the effect of a text-message based accountability system on the desired behavior of participants (mindfulness meditation). My research prior to this dissertation included an independent study related to the effect of romantic relationship introspection on relationship satisfaction, as well as a study on the effects of uncertainty in relation to happiness and well-being

training

My clinical training is specialized in providing general psychotherapy services to adult populations. I have had specific training with high-functioning and academically-gifted adults, and spent four years working in universities such as Auburn, Georgia Tech, and Emory. Within this context, I focused my training and practice on mindfulness-related techniques. For example, I have founded and led mindfulness-based groups in Auburn, Birmingham, and Atlanta, and have taught an accredited mindfulness-based class at Auburn University for four semesters. I also have extensive training in Career and Vocational Counseling, and worked at the Auburn University Career Center for two years. I gained specific experience in marriage and family therapy during my advanced practicum experience at IMPACT Counseling in Birmingham. In addition to these experiences, I have also worked in a variety of other settings, including inpatient, private practice, and community mental health centers. Throughout this training, I have intentionally gained experiences that allow me to serve a diverse range of clients, couples, and groups across the lifespan with a broad range of presenting concerns.
